Climate of Rajasthan

Unraveling a whole new world of color and historical magnificence, Rajasthan simply rules as one of the most popular tourist spots in India. No wonder, the number of footfalls received by this glorious “land of kings” is increasing with every passing year. However, it is but necessary to have a good idea about the climate of Rajasthan as you get ready to explore its unconventional beauty.

Characteristically speaking, the climate of Rajasthan can be classified into four seasons:

  • Summer
  • Monsoon
  • Post-Monsoon and
  • Winter

Summers in Rajasthan can be extremely hot. Extending from the month of April to June, it is characterized by temperatures varying from 32° C to 45°C. However, in the western part of Rajasthan, the temperature may also rise to something like 48°C. Around this time, it is Mount Abu (the only hill station in Rajasthan) that offers the lowest of temperatures in the state. It must also be mentioned that in the desert areas, the temperature drops at night. Dust storms (locally known as aandhis) also occur during the summers.

The Monsoon season stretches from July to September. The temperature drops a few degrees during this time though the humidity level increases to some degree. Almost 90% of the total rainfall received by Rajasthan occurs during this season.

Speaking of the Post-Monsoon season, it lasts from October to November. This time of the year sees the maximum temperatures ranging from 33°C to 38°C, while the minimum temperature hovering around 18°C to 20°C.

Winter in Rajasthan lasts from December to March. It must be mentioned that there are a huge number of variations in terms of maximum and minimum temperatures around Rajasthan during this season. At some places like Churu, the temperature drops to something like 0°C, while some places in the north and north eastern regions of Rajasthan receive slight rains accompanied by light winds during this time. The relative humidity experienced during this season ranges from 50-60 % in the mornings and 25-35% in the afternoon.
