Chittorgarh Fort
The most important tourist attraction of Chittorgarh, the fort is sprawled across an area of 700 acres. Though built in the 7th century, the Chittorgarh Fort still exudes a grandeur that is beyond words. The main gate at the fort – Suraj Pole – is indeed a sight to behold besides the exquisitely carved chhatris that adorn the fort . Most of the fort is in ruins but you can surely look forward to a memorable time.
Vijay Stambh
This stambh or tower was constructed by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mahmud Khilji who was the ruler of Malwa. Standing at a height of 37 meters, the tower is richly decorated with sculptures of Hindu deities.
Rana Kumbha’s Palace
The biggest structure housed inside the Chittorgarh Fort, the palace is said to have underground cellars where Rani Padmini and her women committed jauhar (self immolation) to thwart the designs of Alauddin Khilji who wanted to possess her and therefore attacked the city of Chittorgarh.
Fateh Prakash Museum
Housed inside the Chittorgarh Fort, this museum showcases a rich collection of sculptures besides other royal paraphernalia.
Kalika Mata Temple
Built in the 8th century, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali who is considered to be the symbol of power.
