Orchha (or Urchha) is a town in Tikamgarh district of Madhya
Pradesh state, India. Orchha lies on the Betwa River, 15 km.
from Jhansiin Uttar Pradesh.
Orchha was founded in the 16th century A.D. by the Bundela
chieftain, Rudra Pratap.
Orchha is situated on the bank of river Betwa.
It was the oldest and highest in rank of all the Bundela states,
with a 17-gun salute, and its Maharajas bore the hereditary title of First of the Princes of Bundelkhand.
The town was the seat of an eponymous former princely state of central India, in the Bundelkhand region.
Orchha (‘The Hidden Place’) is set amongst a wonderful
complex of well preserved palaces and temples.
Lutyens is said to have been inspired by Bundela architecture
while designing New Delhi.
Sanchi Stupa:-
The Great Stupa is located 46 km north east of Bhopal, and 10
km from Besnagar and Vidisha in the central part of the state of
Madhya Pradesh.
The Sanchi Stupa is surrounded by a railing with four carved
gateways facing all the four directions.
There is an image of a Greek warrior guarding the gates.
The gateways of Sanchi stupas contain ornamented depiction of
incidents from the life of the Buddha and his previous
incarnations.
The `Great Stupa` at Sanchi was originally commissioned by the
emperor Ashoka.
It was crowned by the chatra, a parasol-like structure
symbolising high rank, which was intended to honour and
shelter the relics.
Today, Buddhism has a wide appeal and the site is visited by
people from around the world.
