This engineering marvel, built at Banihal at a height of 2194 m above sea level, has two tubes with a length of 2.8 kms each.
Built by German builders, the tunnel cuts through the gigantic Pir Panjal mountain range and is guarded by the Army.
The metal-road-tunnel is built through the heart of a mountain.
The tunnel makes it possible to stay in touch with Srinagar even during winters.
