Situated in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
It is oval shaped instead of the usual oblong or square shape.
The fort wall is about 40 feet high and has 19 rounded porches or arches.
The main entrance door has a stone carving, which depicts a single tiger that has been trapped by a six elephants.
Constructed by Malik Ambar, an Abssinian minister in the service of the Sultan of Ahmednagar, who belonged to the Nizam shahi dynasty.
It is the only fort along India`s western coast that remained undefeated despite Maratha, Dutch and English East India Company attacks.
Is a popular tourist attraction.
Took 22 years to build and is constructed on 22 acres of land.
